Ode to an Icon: Actress Cicely Tyson dies at age 96

Every so often, we all heed the call for a higher purpose. On Thursday, American icon Cicely Tyson answered that call and went home to Glory. Celebrated over the 70 years in the entertainment industry. Tyson was an advocate for Civil Rights and the advancement of Black culture and even dabbled in a ‘short-lived’ model career. Tyson made it her goal to never took a role that would demean Black people. She would ‘purposely’ choose roles that uplifted the Black woman.

Actresses like Viola Davis, Oprah Winfrey and even young actress Zendaya were among many that praised Cicely Tyson for her works and inspiring them to succeed in the entertainment industry.
Her latest Biography,  Just As I Am, depicts her life and times in Harlem, Hollywood, and Haute Couture. The Memoir of her life story was just published,  Tuesday,  January 26th. Her accolades includes several Emmy awards, a Peabody and Tony Award. But her most notable achievement was receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in 2016.

We are grateful to have been blessed with Cicely Tyson’s wisdom, talent and calm even in the midst of storms.  Her life achievements off screen were just as magical as on screen.  We will learn in the days, weeks,  and years ahead of her passion for the Advancement of Humanity.
